"Final Fantasy VII, originally released on the PlayStation in 1997, hit the PlayStation Store on June 2nd. Over 100,000 downloads in a fortnight is a nice haul for Square Enix and Sony Computer Entertainment, considering the classic Japanese role-playing game was released at the premium PSone Classics price of $9.99 USD.
Sony announced today it will continue its plans for more PS one releases, confirming Wild Arms 2, Mobile Light Force (aka Psikyo's shooting game Gunbird) and Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol as upcoming, undated releases."

"As expected, Nintendo just announced the DSi at its fall presentation -- and it's got dual touchscreens. The company is calling it a "third platform," which means it's complementing the existing DS Lite, not necessarily replacing it. Lookswise there's not much different, but it's some 12 percent thinner, partly because it doesn't have a GBA cartridge slot. The touchscreens are also slightly larger, at 3.25 inches, and there's an external three megapixel camera -- we don't know what that dot in the hinge is, but we're told there's only one camera. There's an SD slot and internal storage -- we're not sure how much at the moment, but photos can be taken directly to the Wii Photo Channel on the card. Nintendo's also launching an online DSi Shop, which will sell content directly over WiFi, including a free browser app and "DS Ware" game -- and you'll be able to get on for free at "Nintendo Zone" hotspots, which'll be in Japanese McDonalds. The store will take the newly-renamed Nintendo Points, 1000 of which will come free with the DSi until March 2010 and content will be priced in 0 / 200 / 500 / 800 point brackets. ¥18,900 ($178), launching in Japan on November 1st in black and white -- the rest of us will have to wait until next year."~Engadget

"An unusual time piece was unveiled at Corpus Christi College, which is part of England's Cambridge University. By unusual, we mean that the clock cost approximately two million dollars, took seven years you to make, and was unveiled by none other than Cambridge professor Stephen Hawking.
The clock, designed by John Taylor, is nearly four feet across, is gold plated, and comes equipped with, we kid you not, a hideous, terrifying, time-eating locust/grasshopper.
You see, Taylor views time as the great destroyer and he wanted a clock that represented the morbid reality that "once a minute is gone you can't get it back." The locust revolves around the perimeter of the massive gold face, mouth agape, tongue hanging out. Every second, its mouth opens wider and on the 59th second its jaws swallow time. The clock does not have hands or anything of the like. Actually, the clock only tells the exact time once every five minutes. The time is determined by a light source within the clock that shines through small slits on the clocks face that pulse and play tricks on the mind. Every five minutes, the lights pause on the exact time, then go back to their capricious ways."
Oh, and I forgot to mention that on the hour, instead of a bell tone, the clock emits the sound of a chain dropping into a coffin. Nice one.
